Descrizione sommaria:
D. DIVA FAVSTINA2. La Diva Faustina, busto a destra ammantato, capelli ondulati, raccolti in cima alla testa.
R. AVGV-STA3. Vesta, velata, ammantata, stante a sinistra, sorregge con la mano destra una fiaccola e con la sinistra uno scettro.

Description revers  Faustine sous les traits de Cérès voilée et drapée debout à gauche, tenant une torche allumée de la main droite et un sceptre de la main gauche. Traduction revers  “Augusta”, (L’augusta). COMMENTAIRE Poids léger. Portrait réaliste de l’impératrice divinisée. HISTORIQUE FAUSTINE MÈRE (+141) Annia Galeria Faustina. Consécration d'Antonin le Pieux. Faustine mère, fille de Rupilia Faustina, la belle-sœur d'Hadrien, épousa Antonin le Pieux entre 110 et 115 et eut au moins deux enfants Marcus Galerius Antonius, un garçon qui mourut en bas âge et Faustine jeune qui épousera Marc Aurèle. Faustine mère reçoit le titre d'augusta en 139 et se trouve de ce fait associée au monnayage. Elle meurt en 141, âgée d'une quarantaine d'années. Antonin la fait immédiatement déifier et fera frapper un important monnayage de consécration, instituant les "Puellæ Faustinianæ" pour les jeunes orphelines ou pauvres. Antonin fera élever le temple de Faustine dans la région du temple de la Paix (Regio IV). Juste après la mort de Faustine un sesterce représentant son char funèbre fut frappé à l'occasion de la dédicace du temple de la Divine Faustine sur le Forum.

Concludo osservando che le caratteristiche generali e di stile del campione in esame appaiono comparabili con quelle delle monete d'epoca di pari tipologia. Mancano le caratteristiche fisiche e non è possibile un esame comparativo con le monete autentiche del periodo. Nel presente stato di conservazione la moneta, se autentica, ha, a mio avviso, un valore venale di non oltre 20 euro.

In assenza delle caratteristiche fisiche della moneta in esame non sarà possibile svolgere un esame comparativo con le monete autentiche del periodo.
(2) DIVA FAVSTINA. La moneta non offre elementi per la datazione, si può solo dire che fu coniata post-mortem di Faustina, quindi dopo il 141, quando il Senato Romano ne decretò l'apoteosi. Riferisce lo Stevenson (v. link) che Anna Galeria Faustina, passata alla storia come Faustina Maggiore (o Faustina Madre), nacque a Roma nel 105 d.C., sotto il regno di Traiano. Era figlia di Annio Vero, uomo di rango consolare, prefetto di Roma, nonno paterno di Marco Aurelio (v. albero genealogico cliccando qui). Avendo sposato Antonino Pio prima dell'ascesa, ricevette dal Senato il titolo di Augusta poco dopo la morte di Adriano, quando Antonino fu insignito del titolo di Pio. Ella morì nel terzo anno di regno del marito (141 d.C.), all'età di 36 anni. Antonino Pio manifestò grande devozione nei confronti della moglie defunta, venerandone la memoria. Ne fa fede la vasta monetazione commemorativa in suo nome che si spiega però, non solo con l'affetto verso la scomparsa, ma anche con il disegno politico di rafforzare, nella mente dei contemporanei, l'idea dell'eternità dell'Impero attraverso le persone degli Augusti e delle Auguste, regnanti da vivi e divinizzati da morti. Faustina ebbe due figli e due figlie di cui la più famosa è Faustina Minore che andò sposa a Marco Aurelio, suo cugino di 1° grado. Di Faustina madre si conservano vari ritratti con la tipica acconciatura (alta crocchia di trecce sul sommo del capo). Il suo ricordo fu affidato alla benefica istituzione delle puellae Faustinianae, voluta da Antonino per le fanciulle orfane, e al grande tempio ancora esistente sulla Via Sacra (v. link).
(3) AVGV-STA. Il personaggio rappresentato nel rovescio della moneta, la dea Vesta, è riconoscibile da due dei suoi attributi, lo scettro e la fiaccola. La dea Vesta incarna la vita familiare e la religiosità femminile. Gli oggetti rappresentativi del suo ruolo all'interno della religione sono, oltre a quelli già citati, il simpulum e il palladium. Il simpulum era il mestolo utilizzato durante i sacrifici per le libagioni o per l'assaggio dei vini o degli altri liquidi che venivano versati sulla testa delle vittime. Il palladium era la statuetta di Atena, che Enea, scampato all'incendio di Troia, portò con sè diventando il simbolo della stirpe romana. La leggenda Augusta nel rovescio della moneta pone sullo stesso piano la DIVA FAVSTINA, l'imperatrice divinizzata e la dea Vesta, protettrice del focolare domestico e dello stato romano.
