leggibili):
D. Atena, testa a sinistra con elmo a calotta
sormontato dal cimiero, visiera sporgente e
paraguance mobili a forma d'ala sollevate4.
Bordo perlinato.
R. Civetta stante a sinistra, testa di fronte;
davanti lucertola trattenuta con l'artiglio
destro. KAMA5,
a destra nel campo, a scendere. In esergo tre
globetti6.

que l'exemplaire du British Museum (BMC 39).
About this type: Le monnayage de bronze ne
commencerait pas avant 420 avant J.-C. Le
dernier groupe du monnayage de bronze voit la
substitution de la tête de Gorgone par celle
d'une élégante Athéna archaïsante avec la
chouette au revers. Le choix de la tête
d'Athéna est peut-être lié à l'intervention
athénienne en Sicile entre 415 et 413 avant
J.-C. Pour le revers de notre monnaie qui est
décrite comme un tetras (4 onkiai) ou un trias
(3 onkiai) suivant les auteurs, il y a deux
représentations de revers. Avec la légende
rétrograde, Westermark et Jenkins ont
répertorié 37 exemplaires avec quatre coins de
droit et cinq coins de revers. Les deux séries
à la tête d'Athéna sont liées par un coin de
droit. Avec le coin de droit B, les auteurs de
l'ouvrage ont relevé deux exemplaires avec la
légende rétrograde et onze exemplaires avec la
légende normale. History: Camarina fut fondée
par des colons syracusains en 599-598 avant
J.-C. Elle s'opposa souvent à sa métropole
avant d'être détruite une première fois par le
tyran Gélon de Syracuse en 484 avant J.-C. Ses
habitants furent déportés dans la métropole
sicilienne. La ville fut refondée en 466-465
avant J.-C. avec l'aide d'habitants de Géla et
de réfugiés camariniens. Le monnayage débuta
vers 461 avant J.-C. La cité fut évacuée en
405 avant J.-C. devant le danger carthaginois.
Les habitants se réfugièrent à Syracuse. La
cité fut définitivement rasée par les Romains
lors de la première guerre punique en 258
avant J.-C.&

ON THE CONDITION: Exemplaire sur un flan
légèrement décentré sur la tête d’Athéna. Très
belle tête. Revers de style fin. Belle patine

COMMENTARY Même coin de droit que l’exemplaire
du British Museum (BMC. 39). Légende normale
au revers. L’exemplaire de MONNAIES XVIII, n°
21 avait réalisé un prix de 281 € sur une
offre maximum à 302€ avec 8 offres. HISTORICAL
BACKGROUND SICILY - KAMARINA (5th - 4th
century BC). Camarina was founded by Syracusan
settlers in 599-598 BC. -VS. She often opposed
her metropolis before being destroyed for the
first time by the tyrant Gelon of Syracuse in
484 BC.. -VS. Its inhabitants were deported to
the Sicilian metropolis. The city was
refounded in 466-465 BC. -VS. with the help of
inhabitants of Géla and Camarinian refugees.
Coinage began around 461 BC.. -VS. The city
was evacuated in 405 BC. -VS. before the
Carthaginian danger. The inhabitants took
refuge in Syracuse. Camarina after 405 found
itself under Carthaginian influence before
falling under the domination of Dionysius the
Elder. The city sided with Dion against the
son of Dionysius the Elder in 357 BC.. -VS. It
passed successively under the control of
Tiomoléon then of Agathoklès, tossed between
Carthage and Syracuse and found itself victim
of the incursions of the mercenaries
Mamertines. Favorable to Rome, during the
first Punic war, it was occupied by the
Carthaginian forces. The city was definitively
razed by the Romans during the First Punic War
in 258 BC.. -VS. and its enslaved population.
Nevertheless, a diminished city survived until
the 2nd century AD.. -VS., shadow of a
glorious past.

Concludo osservando che le caratteristiche
generali e di stile della moneta non si discostano
da quelle delle monete d'epoca di pari tipologia.
Nel presente stato di conservazione la moneta, se
autentica, vale, a mio avviso, una trentina di
euro.

Note:
(1) Tetras. La
colonia greca di Camarina nella Sicilia
meridionale adottò, per l'argento, il sistema
euboico - attico, basato su una dracma di 4,36g.
Per il bronzo il sistema di riferimento era la
litra (in latino libbra) di 14,144g e i nominali
erano due: il tetras (1/4 di litra, segno del
valore tre globetti, cioè 3 once), pari a circa
3,456g e l'oncia (dodicesima parte di litra;
segno del valore un globetto, cioè 1 oncia),
pari a circa 1,280g (si veda in proposito
http://www.snible.org/coins/hn/sicily.html#Camarina). Riporto in
tabella le caratteristiche fisiche dei tetras
presenti nei link di cui sopra.

Dalla tabella si evince che la moneta di figura
ha caratteristiche fisiche (3,15g, 14,8mm, 6h)
che rientrano nei margini di variazione delle
monete dello stesso tipo reperite nel web. Per
inciso vorrei notare che in
alcuni dei link di cui sopra il termine
Trias viene utilizzato al posto e con lo stesso
significato di Tetras; ciò non è formalmente
corretto, si veda in proposito http://www.magnagraecia.nl/coins/General/aboutMGC.html.
