ovale, bien centré des deux côtés. Très beau
portrait d'Alexandre Sévère de haut relief, bien
venu à la frappe. Joli revers avec une faiblesse
de frappe sur la légende. Très jolie patine vert

Veniamo alle conclusioni: per quanto consentito ad una
valutazione a distanza, la moneta di figura presenta
caratteristiche fisiche, generali e di stile
comparabili con le monete d'epoca della stessa
tipologia. Nel presente stato di conservazione, il
valore venale della moneta potrebbe, a mio avviso,
stimarsi in c. 10€.

Dalla tabella si evince che le caratteristiche
fisiche della moneta in esame (30mm, 22,12g)
rientrano nei margini di variabilità delle monete
d'epoca dello stesso tipo reperite nel web.

Tribunizia.
(3) IMP CAES M AVR SEV ALEXANDER AVG
(IMPerator CAESar Marcus AVRelius SEVerus ALEXANDER
AVGustus). Marco Aurelio Severo Alessandro,
originariamente chiamato Alessiano, nacque intorno
al 208 d. C., figlio di Giulia Mamea e di Gesio
Marciano. Nel 221 Severo Alessandro, su pressione
della nonna Giulia Mesa, fu adottato dall'imperatore
Elagabalo, suo cugino, che gli conferì il titolo di
Cesare. Dopo l’assassinio di Elagabalo (agli inizi
del 222), Alessandro fu subito riconosciuto come
imperatore dalle guardie pretoriane e confermato dal
Senato il giorno successivo. Alessandro condusse
l’impero intelligentemente e bene, e le condizioni
dello stato migliorarono molto, ma l’imperatore
subiva troppo l’influenza della madre, e questo era
avvertito dalle truppe. Per i primi nove anni
l’impero non fu travagliato da guerre, ma nel 232
Severo Alessandro dovette combattere contro il
Sassanide Ardashir che aveva da poco spodestato il
regno di Arsacide in Parthia e che stava minacciando
la Siria e la Cappadocia. La campagna incontrò solo
un parziale successo, e presto Alessandro dovette
tornare in Occidente, dove i tumulti alle frontiere
germaniche richiedevano la sua presenza. Tuttavia,
prima che la battaglia iniziasse, i soldati
acclamarono imperatore Massimino, uno dei loro
comandanti e uccisero Severo Alessandro e Giulia
Mamea nel loro campo vicino Magonza il 22 marzo 235
d. C.
(4) PONTIF MAX TR P II COS P P
(PONTIFex Maximus TRibunicia Potestate II COnSul
Pater Patriae). La moneta è datata, secondo il Ric,
234 d.C., come si desume dall'ordinale (II) della
potestà tribunizia che il Senato rinnovò al sovrano
ogni anno, al primo di gennaio, sino alla morte.
(5) S C (Senatus Consulto, "per
decreto del Senato") era la consueta sigla apposta
sui nominali in bronzo (sesterzi, dupondi e assi) ad
indicare la competenza esclusiva del Senato Romano
nelle decisioni attinenti alle emissioni di quelle
monete (la monetazione in oro e in argento, che non
riporta quella sigla, rientrava invece nelle
competenze dirette dell'imperatore).

Dictionary of Roman Coins" di Stevenson le
note che seguono a proposito della Securitas: "La
sicurezza, in quanto dea venerata dai Romani, è
rappresentata in una grande varietà di modi sulle
monete imperiali. Nella maggior parte dei casi essa
appare in costume matronale. A volte, è
tranquillamente seduta, come se fosse a suo agio e
non avesse nulla da temere, con il gomito sinistro
poggiato sulla sedia e la mano che sostiene la
testa... atteggiamento che gli artisti antichi
consideravano caratteristico del riposo. Ha in mano
uno scettro, o una cornucopia, o una patera... Su
alcune medaglie c'è vicino a lei un altare
acceso.... Ci sono medaglie di quasi tutti gli
imperatori (con una palese inappropriatezza alla
maggior parte dei regni) da Otone e Vitellio a
Costanzo e Costanzo I, che hanno come tipo del
rovescio questa rappresentazione della Sicurezza." |
